The EDGE Project, an initiative of Hampshire Museums & Galleries and The Discarded Nut Theatre Company offered young people aged between 14-24 an incredible opportunity to get involved with Year 3 of the EDGE Together Company.
Drawing participants from families in the Armed Forces (Portsmouth - Navy; Aldershot & Bordon - Army; Odiham - Royal Air Force) and from their surrounding communities, they became part of an inspirational drama and music project funded by the Ministry of Defence’s Community Covenant.
Through sharing the experiences and opinions of these different young people, we explored the participant’s understanding of what a hero is, who they know who has been heroic and the nature of the sacrifice that person has made. The EDGE Together Company united the four groups as they helped in creating the script, characters and music for a high quality, vibrant theatrical play - The Heroes Storybook - which was performed in each of their home towns.
My role was to work with each of the four groups of young people to create a visual identity for their individual 'worlds' - Aura, Terrea, Lacus and Salamander (see below). This was then used as a foundation to create costumes, promotional artwork and hair & makeup.
